PR-191

PR-191 reaches La Coca Falls at km 8.1 on the northern approach. For the drive to El Portal Rainforest Center, follow PR-3 to Palmer in Río Grande. Entry to the PR-191 corridor is free and needs no reservation.

Our pick: PR-191 if you want roadside falls and Yokahú Tower, where parking is limited to 30 minutes. PR-191 does not connect through the forest to Naguabo.

PR-988

PR-988 reaches Angelito Trail at km 3.6 on the Luquillo side. Angelito Trail runs 0.2 miles one way to Las Damas Pool on the Río Mameyes.

If it rains: avoid the water at Las Damas Pool because of flash flood risk. A river gauge reading cannot show that the water is safe.

PR-186

PR-186 reaches El Toro Trail at km 10.8. El Toro Trail gains 1,325 feet over 2.3 miles, so you need to be ready for a difficult hike with little phone signal.

Our pick: stay on PR-3 until Palmer if El Portal is your destination on the northern approach. PR-9966 connects PR-186 with PR-191.
