How we count El Yunque tours

The count covers 162 Viator tours naming El Yunque in their title or itinerary. The search covers Viator's Puerto Rico catalog. Manual review excluded 25 products that mentioned the forest only in passing. Exclusions include catamarans, Culebra, Bayamón, Toro Negro and transfers.

The bar a tour has to clear

To enter our lists, a tour needs at least 4.5 stars and at least 30 combined Viator and Tripadvisor reviews. We selected 71 tours using these thresholds.

We do not recommend tours scoring below 4.5 stars across at least 5 reviews from Viator alone. A passing combined score cannot override the Viator cutoff.

Prices, ratings and review counts refresh nightly so you can compare the latest figures. A tour that stops selling keeps its last price with a date. Lists undergo review every few months. A tour may remain listed after its rating falls below the entry threshold.

How we build each list

The 9 lists draw from the same pool of 71 selected tours. A tour may fit more than 1 list. We compare tour inclusions next, followed by reviews and ratings. Some lists stay small because few tours fit.

Your options include National Forest tours, Waterslide tours, Zipline, Guided hikes, and ATV and horseback. Other lists include Tours from San Juan and El Yunque with kids. You can also choose Private tours or VIP and luxury tours.

El Yunque with kids requires children or family mentions in at least 15% of recent reviews. The family list uses a minimum age of 5 or no stated minimum age as its entry rule. No stated minimum age does not confirm that a tour accepts every child. Match the tour's age rule to your child's age.

The VIP and luxury list uses $250 as a price filter. A VIP title alone does not earn a tour a place on the list.

Recent review patterns help you distinguish forest road visits from river slide days. Yokahú Tower mentions cluster on road tours; slide mentions cluster on other tours. Review texts stay off the site.

What the Forest Service list means

A Forest Service tag means an operator's name matched the agency's list of permitted forest operators after a manual check. Use the tag as a plus in your comparison.

A missing Forest Service tag does not establish that an operator lacks a permit. At least one operator prints a permit number without appearing on the dated Forest Service list.

What we leave out

Tour operators cannot buy a place on any of the nine tour lists published by elyunque.travel. The site's commission is explained on the affiliate disclosure page.

Stops named on a tour page come from the operator's description of that tour. Your itinerary depends on weather, closures and the option you book. A named stop is not a promise.
